America’s thirty-second President, Franklin D Roosevelt, once said that there are as many opinions as there are experts. The truth is; we all have opinions, and we like to express them. This video will help you to choose the best words and phrases when you want to give your point of view, as well as agreeing and disagreeing. Let us begin with phrases for asking for an opinion:

What do you think about…?

What are your thoughts on…?

How do you feel about…?

What’s your opinion on…?

What’s your point of view on…?

What’s your position on this matter?

Here are some phrases for stating an opinion.

I think…

I believe…

I feel…

In my opinion…

I would say…

I’m sure that…

For more formal opinions we can use the following phrases:

From my perspective…

In my view…

I am of the opinion that …

It seems to me that…

From my point of view…

My position on this issue is…

Here is how we might positively respond to an opinion:

So do I.

Me too.

Absolutely right.

Definitely.

I agree.

I couldn’t agree more.

And here is how we can negatively respond to an opinion.

I’m not in agreement with you.

I disagree entirely.

I’m sorry but I don’t agree.

I’m afraid I disagree.

That’s out of the question.

I can’t go along with that at all.

Sometimes we partly agree, so can give a tentative agreement:

I agree up to a point, but…

I see what you mean, but…

That’s partly true, however…

I’m not so sure about that.

I see your point, but …

I’m not entirely convinced.

I hope you have learnt some new phrases that you can use when you express or react to opinions. We would like to read your opinions! Please post them in the comments section below.
